Indigenous Services Canada Grant: Curriculum Enhancement Projects

Curriculum Enhancement Projects: Indigenous Teacher Education Program (NITEP – Cariboo Field Center)

Through an Indigenous Services Canada grant, curriculum and pedagogy developments were conducted across a variety of subjects and courses taught in the 2020/2021 academic year for the Cariboo Cohort as part of the Indigenous Teacher Education Program (NITEP) under the direction of Dr. Jan Hare (Dean pro-tem). Throughout the 2020/2021 academic year, instructors for the Cariboo Cohort met to reflect on goals, course development, implementation, challenges and successes in learning and instruction which guided these curriculum enhancements.

These curriculum enhancements focus on:

  • Curriculum development rooted in local Indigenous pedagogy.
  • Indigenizing pedagogy and enhancing Indigenous views, knowledges and learning in curriculum.
  • Enhancing learner success in the NITEP Program.
  • Connection with land-based pedagogy
  • Revitalizing curriculum and pedagogy to center Indigenous knowledges, pedagogies, and decolonizing education.
  • Addressing the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) to the TRC commitments, which are both aimed at improving the rights and well-being of Indigenous people, through teaching and learning
